Is food waste prevention one of your top priorities? Are you working on designing new ways to reduce food waste?

Combating Food Waste in the EU, seminar in Brussels

Frode Syversen, Mepex Consult, has made a presentation on how to assess food waste at the AGRA conference 8-9 November in Brussels
Beside Janez Potocnik, European Commis-sioner for the Environment Commissioner, presentations was given by the following other Nordic representatives; Norgesgruppen, Stop Wasting Food, TimeTemp and PYR.  The conference is organized by Informa AGRA, London.

New pre-study on food prevention Mepex, in cooperation with Klar Kommunikasjon and Econet (DK) have within end of September 2011 made a pre-study as basis for a possible Nordic information camapign with the objective to reduce the amount of food waste from households. As the environmental impact of food production is great, any reduction in the amount of edible food waste from households will contribute to less GHG emissions and also lead to other environmental gains. Mepex has already done some reports on the topic food waste prevention. For further information contact project leader Peter Sundt.

Marine littering on the international agenda

The challenge related to marine littering is getting closer to our shores...finally...it is time to wake up!

Download here the KIMO presentation of Mayor Albert de Hoop, President of KIMO, held at the Identiplast Conference, organized by PlasticsEurope, in London 9-10 November.

The presentation shows that different organisations now are focusing on marine littering, including the "OSPAR" commission. A Europen study on plastic waste in the environment is expected to be published within this year. Norwegian EPA (Klif and DN) will also present their report on "marine littering" in December.

Also EU Environment Commissionar Janez Potocnik calls for actions at a conference two weeks ago; he said; "To the health, fishing and tourism sectors it is like an enormous economic and environmental plastic tsunami, and we made it" . "The plastic companies that make and use the potential waste that ends up in our seas must go further in tackling this so-called marine litter".

Hold Norge Rent, Keep Norway Tidy, will at their annual meeting on 11th January focus on marine littering as the mentioned Norwegian report will be presented there. The Norwegian Environmental Minister Erik Solheim will take part in the meeting. How to finance clean ups in general will be the other main topic at this conference.
